Working Together as Partners...
The Walter R. Sundling PTA
A Note from our PTA President
Signs of spring are finally beginning to happen! It’s been a long winter and I think most of us are looking forward to seeing the color green again!
WRS PTA has a busy March and we look forward to your participation! We have another great Parent Connection event coming up on March 6 at Sundling at 7:00 p.m. Sundling’s Parent Connection Chair, Troy McLennan, will be presenting, “Your Family Constitution: Bill of Rights vs. Entitles Privileges”. How often do our students (& ourselves) get these confused, and how do we counter the entitlement mindset this confusion brings? Troy McLennan, LCSW, is a local therapist with 20 years of experience working with Jr. High students & their families on this very topic. Come see what he has to say! Treats and refreshments will be served.
Also, Read-O-Rama, which helps to encourage our students to read more and foster a love for reading, will be held on Friday, March 21 during the school day. If you are able to donate small gift cards for this event please send them to the school office with “Read-O-Rama" marked on the envelope.
On Tuesday, March 11, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. we are having another "Culver’s Night”. Sundling staff will once again be helping to serve that evening. Join us for good food and fun. See the calendar for our other dine and share events.
Sundling PTA has an opportunity to be entered into a drawing to win $1000 for our PTA. We just need 14 new members by May 31, 2014! It’s never too late to become a Sundling PTA Member. You can fill out the form and send it in to the office. Thank you for your support!
Remember, you can now follow Sundling PTA on Twitter atSundling PTA@WRSPTA, in addition to staying up-to-date here on our website and through our Newsletter.
All PTA members are welcome to attend the monthly PTA Meetings where you can learn more about what is going on at the school and in the district. We meet the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the school.
As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
It is an event we have coming up in May called “When Pigs Fly”. On this day, we honor four beloved teachers who passed away during their time at Sundling: Carolyn Baider, Frank Feeley, Dusty Bertel, and, recently, Nancy Ellison. The name of the event comes from Carolyn's motto during her battle with cancer, where she would say she would only give up on children when pigs fly.
In their name, we complete a day of service to our Palatine community and help raise funds for both the Palatine Food Pantry and P.A.T.H. (Palatine Assisting Through Hope, which benefits families in crisis in our area). In addition to a three-week food drive leading up to the date, on the day of the event we participate in several charitable activities, including one station which allows students to make blankets for children in local area children’s hospitals and emergency rooms.
How you can help...
We would really appreciate your help in making this day a success. For each student to actively participate in making blankets, we need a great deal of fleece. In the past, many parents have donated fleece (either in pre-cut bundles of four-by-four feet, or in any size no-sew fleece tie blanket kit, currently on sale at many fabric stores). You can also donate a monetary contribution to purchase fleece for this event. With your donation, we can teach our students about the joy of giving and bring comfort to children in need.
Kits and donations (checks can be made payable to Walter R. Sundling and labeled "Fleece for Pig Walk") can be dropped off in the front office with the secretaries. For further questions please contact:

We appreciate anything you would be willing to do to support our charity event!
SPARK’s theme for the year is “Getting the 360 on Your Child.” SPARK meetings are designed to give parents information to help them in their current and future steps of the journey of parenting children with special needs. At SPARK we realize the importance of providing:
Relevant programs and resources related to special education
Opportunities to network, receive support and help
Connections for parents with outside sources

Supporting your PTA has never been easier!
We have successfully offered a direct donation program the past few years that has been highly supported by our WRS parents. In this fast-paced age where it’s hard to find extra time between work and your student’s activities, parents are looking for a simplified way to offer assistance.
While parents appreciate the services of the PTA, many welcomethe opportunity to reduce the number of fundraising solicitations. In recognition of this fact, the WRS PTA continues to encourage direct donations to satisfy its budgetary requirements used to support the many important programs it sponsors. If you would like to give a direct donation, click on the 'Donate Now" link below for more information.
